MULATO II® (Hybrid Brachiaria)
Main Description: Mulato II is the first generation of hybrids developed by Grupo Papalotla, designed to overcome the limitations of common Brachiarias. It is a highly productive forage, recognized worldwide for its superior nutritional quality and high resistance to drought and pests. It is the benchmark for high-performance tropical ranching.
Key Characteristics & Benefits:
- High Forage Quality: Excellent levels of palatability and digestibility, which translates into significant increases in meat and milk production.
- Protein Content: Can reach between 14% and 18% crude protein depending on soil fertility and management.
- Superior Drought Tolerance: Its deep root system allows it to stay productive and green even during prolonged dry seasons.
- Rapid Establishment: Vigorous growth that ensures quick ground cover and early first grazing.
- Pest Resistance: High tolerance to spittlebugs (salivazo) and other common pests and diseases in tropical areas.
- Versatility: Excellent performance in rotational grazing and is highly suitable for hay and silage production.
- Growth Habit: Semi-erect to decumbent growth, providing a dense forage mass.
Management Recommendations:
- Days to First Grazing: 80–90 days after germination.
- Resting Period: 25–35 days depending on the season and management.
- Adaptation: 0 – 1,500/1,800 meters above sea level (masl).
